Digital technology has substantially altered the art world. Many artists and designers are now producing art through the use of a keyboard and mouse, rather than a pencil and paintbush. Digitizers allow computer artists to transfer pictures from a video camera onto a computer screen. With the image on the screen, the artist is free to transform any of the backgrounds, colours, shapes or textures using computer software. Digital art makes it far easier for artists to create technically astonishing works, as well as to liberate their creativity. From engineers to archeologists, innovative thinking is often needed in the work place. No better example can be found than the field of commercial art, where digital art is the primary tool for producing work. As shown in this gallery, student interest in computer art is gaining in popularity.
